Gigs in Lahore

Many underground musicians whine that today’s underground music culture is nothing compared to how fabulous it used to be few years ago. Some of the musicians have been consumed by lucrative Call Center jobs and others have left the country for greener pastures. The scene of gigs have been quite grim in the recent past. But things seems to be changing .
Since the last few weeks there have been a gig every Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Some of them were held in combination with movie screenings but most of them were solely music events.
On this Thursday, there was a gig followed by a movie screening in Sozo World,Fortress stadium. Yesterday there was a similar event, and today there is a rock concert where eight bands will be performing.The problem with underground bands is that some of them are so bad they make you feel disenchanted about the local music scene.
The Planet (H Block DHA ) ,a leisure complex has been the most popular venue for the these underground music concerts. Sozo World. Fortress Stadium is also a popular place.
As they say, these days every third guy in Lahore is playing guitar and if one of every third guy who plays guitar ends up forming or becoming part of some underground band, then we are going to witness a mushrooming growth of bands. Even now many bands are invading the music scene.Only time will tell how many of these bands actually survive the competition and go beyond the few music websites and concerts .
