I did it !

For the past few years I have been going to lot of plays in the city. I don’t know of anyone who has attended more plays then me in Lahore on the past two years .I have always been sitting there in the corner watching the whole happening with the burning desire to be in. To get involved in some theatrical process and have some serious fun. Now I’ve struck upon an opportunity of life to be assistant director of the play. That is a big news for me. I confused about accepting since I might not be able to do justice to the job.Lets see.

Lahore has a very active commercial Punjabi theatre. The Punjabi theatre is very infamous among many People as they look down upon it as vulgar entertainment. I’ll discuss this some other day. Lahore has also got a English theatre scene albeit it is not an established one.

The scene is governed by some schools (LGS, Beaconhouse, LACAS etc) and ‘private production houses’. These private production houses are mostly a group of few people who gather once every year for a play.Fall season is the peak season of these plays. The reason is that advertisers have no better options to put in their money and the heat is bearable in those days.

To brace for this year’s peak season theatre activity, production houses have rolled out plans for staging their plays. Some production houses have started recruitment and other have even started rehearsals. The plays are mostly attended by People for socializing, opposite sex (I hope you understand this one), for the lack of other activities and for satisfying theatrical curiosities too. The audience consists of teenagers and youngsters who understand and speak English.

The marketing managers of Voodoo tee, Nestle, Levi’s, Hangten, Slazeneger, Nirala Sweets, Gourmet, Bank Alfalah decide the fate of such plays as they approve sponsorships for these plays. A play which made huge ripples while the rehearsals were going on was paralyzed when the producer woke up to discover that he was planning to stage play in the Basant season when the advertising money is splurged only over Basant events. it is expected that from next month onwards theatrical activity will warm up and we will get to see few plays next month too.

Just do your best, nothing less.

If they offer the job to you, that means they think you can do it. They know the details and job expectations anyway. If they think you can do it, you better believe it! :) :) :) goodluck!

will read your past entries about Pakistan. I've read a few and so far, reading them is a very nice experience. Thanks and more power!

I can understand your desire. Afterall you are also a leo. I also want to involve in some kind of theatre. Karachi has a very bad scene. Not much of theatre happens here except the Umer Sharif walas that I hate completely.

that's good to hear. Wot's there to think? Accpet it bhaee.... i v to see it for yourself...yes i guess basicly it does come down to task prioritization. Planning is important. i agree with raheel. there isn't much happening in khi's scene n for this ol gal, security and accessibilty is such a big issue...so one always end up in a clastrophobic diner with expensive food and loud music...
i do too wish theatre scene wwas better here

yes, BLACK FISH is amazing. Katha was also good but it didn't get support from people so they have started street theatre.

asiansmiles,i have started working on the play and i am loving it.it is very creative and revitalizing.I love standing before the cast of the play and prompting them when they commit any mistakes.I am helping them come out of their lives and get into the skin of the character.Within a week or so they will have learnt their lines and the fun will began then.Thanx for asking .
